Moon Over New York explores the changing definition of the American family by placing a non-traditional one in a classic destination—New York City at Christmastime. The film celebrates the city’s iconic image as a place where the ideal is possible, but also its harsh reality. It serves as the setting for a young mother’s acceptance of adulthood.
Five years after her teenage pregnancy Rachel is adapting to the role of single kindergarten mom while still answering to her own demanding father. In an effort to fulfill both roles she has meticulously planned a trip to New York City. But when she wakes up with a hangover and two surprise guests at her apartment all her careful plans seem wasted. She finds her best efforts can’t create the idyllic day she’s imagined.
